JADS on the move: Sport, data and impact at the Vestingloop
Posted on
On Sunday, May 25, a sporty group of twenty JADS colleagues lined up for the Vestingloop Den Bosch. Dressed in recognizable JADS shirts, they ran distances of 5, 10, or 15 kilometers, or walked 10 or even 21 kilometers through and around the historic city. The atmosphere was energetic and enthusiastic. a day where vitality, team spirit, and visibility in the city took center stage.
Research in practice
For JADS, the Vestingloop was not just a sporting event, but also a valuable opportunity to connect research with real-world practice. Just like in 2024, we collected data during this year’s event for ongoing research projects in the fields of movement and health, including TrEat and iRHIS. Gathering data in a real-life context, outside the lab provides valuable insights that contribute to injury prevention, behavioral change, and personalized health advice.Read our 2024 article here.
Pre-event inspiration: The Expert Talk
In the lead-up to the Vestingloop, we organized an Expert Talk on May 8 at the Mariënburg campus, centered around the theme of sport & data. During the session, Prof. Aarnout Brombacher discussed how data can help both professional and recreational athletes improve performance, train smarter, and move more healthily. The talk attracted around 50 participants, including members of the JADS community and external partners.

From knowledge to action
Following the talk, colleagues who wanted to put theory into practice could join a short running clinic. Under the guidance of Professor Brombacher, they worked on running technique and posture.
Looking ahead
Participating in the Vestingloop aligns perfectly with JADS’s broader mission: using data to create societal impact. One of our key focus areas is Health & Vitality a domain in which we explore how data can help people live healthier, more active lives. The Vestingloop provides an ideal real-world context to apply and test innovations in this space, bringing together research, behavior, technology, and community engagement.
We’re already looking forward to the next edition, where we hope to participate again with an enthusiastic JADS team — combining sports and data while strengthening our ties with the city. In parallel, we also collaborate with the Municipality of ’s-Hertogenbosch and students from Koning Willem I College on a related Vestingloop project that explores the event’s broader societal value, as described in this article. We also plan to host another engaging public session on running and data in the lead-up to the event.
