Ladies of Data 2025: exploring the real potential of generative AI

Posted on

On Thursday, 25 September, JADS and partners will host the sixth edition of Ladies of Data at the Mariënburg in ’s-Hertogenbosch. The event brings together professionals, researchers, and students in data science and AI — this year with a special focus on how generative AI can contribute to meaningful innovation.

What is Ladies of Data?

Ladies of Data is an annual event that offers a stage to women in data and AI, while welcoming a broad audience. Why? Because the sector still lacks diversity, and this needs to change. We know that science and technology become stronger when different perspectives are included. By actively creating space for female voices, the event aims to inspire others and contribute to a more inclusive field.

Why this year’s theme: GenAI — beyond the hype?

Generative AI is often in the news, but what can it actually deliver? Much of today’s attention goes to AI’s ability to automate, yet there is far more potential. At Ladies of Data 2025, we look beyond efficiency and explore how GenAI can support new forms of research, creativity, and social value.

We will also reflect on critical questions:
How do we deal with ethics and legal boundaries when AI generates text, images, or decisions? How can we design and apply GenAI in ways that are responsible and meaningful, across academia, industry, and society?

What can you expect?

  • Keynotes by leading voices in AI and law, entrepreneurship, and design

  • Interactive breakout sessions on a range of GenAI applications

  • Collaboration with Design Museum Den Bosch, inspired by their exhibition Women as Technology

  • Networking drinks, to connect with fellow professionals and researchers

A special collaboration with Design Museum Den Bosch

This year, we are also working closely with Design Museum Den Bosch, whose exhibition Women as Technology explores the role of women in the history of technology. The exhibition serves as inspiration for one of our breakout sessions, where we will reflect on how technology reflects, reinforces or challenges gender patterns — and how generative AI might open up new possibilities. If you are interested in the intersection of technology, gender, and society, this is a session not to miss.

Speakers

The program features a diverse group of speakers from academia and industry. Among them: Adriana Pereira (The Fabricant), who will share her perspective on entrepreneurship in the era of AI; Colette Cuijpers (Tilburg University), addressing the legal dimensions of GenAI; Flor Miriam Plaza del Arco (Leiden University), exploring the intersection of AI, emotion and social bias; Naomi Moonen (JADS), speaking on the global impact of GenAI on innovation; and Evelien Nieuwenburg (Dembrane), showing how GenAI can help us better understand group dialogue. Together, they offer a broad and thoughtful view on the opportunities and challenges this technology brings.

Why attend?

  • Gain fresh insight into the capabilities — and limitations — of GenAI

  • Explore ethical and societal questions around new AI technologies

  • See diverse voices on stage, and contribute to a more inclusive AI community

  • Meet fellow professionals and researchers from different backgrounds
